PMP Certification in the UK: Cost, Eligibility and Exam Booking (2026)
UK candidates earn the PMP the same way as candidates anywhere else: apply to PMI, get approved, pay, then book a Pearson VUE appointment at a test center or online. What changes in the UK is the budget in pounds sterling, the choice of test centers in cities such as London, Manchester and Glasgow, and how the PMP sits next to the APM and PRINCE2 credentials that many UK employers also know. This guide covers those UK specifics.

How much does the PMP cost in GBP?
Use the US-price benchmark below to estimate a budget at about 0.73 GBP per USD (indicative rate, October 2026). PMI's regional prices, membership offers, taxes and your bank's fees can change the final total. Confirm the quote for your account before paying.
| Cost item | With PMI membership | Without membership |
|---|---|---|
| PMI annual membership | $164 (about GBP 120) | Not needed |
| PMP exam fee | $405 (about GBP 296) | $655 (about GBP 478) |
| Exam and membership subtotal (training excluded) | $569 (about GBP 415) | $655 (about GBP 478) |
Fees as listed by PMI (US pricing) and on our PMP exam cost guide. PMI decides any local tax at checkout, so confirm the final amount before you pay.
The pound floats against the US dollar, so the sterling figures above are budgeting estimates at an indicative October 2026 rate: about GBP 296 for the member exam fee, about GBP 478 for the non-member exam fee and about GBP 120 for a year of PMI membership. PMI decides any tax at checkout, including whether VAT applies to your order. If the charge is processed in a foreign currency, your card issuer may add a conversion fee, so compare the checkout total with your statement. If your employer is funding the certification, agree in advance whether that covers membership as well as the exam, and download the receipt from your PMI account for expenses.
With the US benchmark, membership plus the member exam fee is $86 below the non-member exam fee before taxes. Compare your actual regional totals to decide whether membership fits your needs.
Booking the exam
- Test center: Pearson VUE centers operate in major UK cities such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Availability changes, so search your town or postcode on the Pearson VUE PMI page for current centers, dates and times. If you need a Saturday seat or a center close to home, book as soon as your eligibility is confirmed.
- Online (OnVUE): available in the UK. You need a private room, a webcam, a stable connection and a clear desk. In a shared home, agree a quiet window in advance that covers the full appointment, because OnVUE expects a private room for the whole session.
- Clock changes: the UK moves between GMT and BST in late March and late October. If your appointment falls near a clock change, check the start time on your Pearson VUE confirmation rather than relying on memory.
- ID: your government ID must match the name on your PMI application. If you changed your name or use a middle name on your passport, fix the mismatch in your PMI profile before booking.
For check-in timing and permitted items, follow your Pearson VUE confirmation. Our PMP exam day checklist walks through the rest.
Exam language
UK candidates sit the exam in English. If you trained in PRINCE2 or an APM syllabus first, expect PMI's own vocabulary and scenario style: the exam follows PMI's July 2026 Exam Content Outline, and terms from another framework do not always map one to one. Our PMP glossary is a quick way to check PMI terms.
Eligibility
PMI's four PMP experience pathways are 60 months with a secondary credential, 48 months with an associate or qualifying vocational credential, 36 months with a bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 24 months with a GAC-accredited bachelor's or postgraduate degree. Count non-overlapping project leadership experience within the previous 10 years.
You also need 35 hours of qualifying project-management training; an active CAPM satisfies that training requirement. Check the credential mapping and documentation in our PMP eligibility guide and PMI's official requirements before applying.
Local community
The PMI UK Chapter is the national chapter. It runs events and PDU sessions, both in person and online, which help before the exam for networking and after it for the 60 PDUs you need every three years to renew. Find it through the chapter directory in your PMI account.
The APM and PRINCE2 credentials have their own awarding bodies and their own rules. The PMP is PMI's globally portable credential, and its eligibility follows PMI's criteria below, whatever other qualifications you hold. For a direct comparison of PMI's two main credentials, see PMP vs CAPM.
A study rhythm that fits your schedule
A UK working week suits a split routine: 20 to 30 practice questions on a commute or a lunch break, then one longer weekend block for timed sets and review. Count back from your target date and avoid planning the final two weeks around year-end close or the summer holidays if those are busy periods at work. Our PMP study plan guide has sample schedules, and a free account includes a study plan generator that builds a week-by-week plan from your target date and weekly hours.
Before booking, take at least two full 180-question mock exams (the live exam is 180 questions, 170 scored plus 10 unscored pretest, in 240 minutes) and drill your weakest areas with the topic guides.
