What the July 2026 weights mean in practice
The exam presents 180 questions, of which 170 are scored and 10 are unscored pretest items. Applying the active domain weights to the 170 scored questions gives an approximation of how many scored questions each domain contributes:

The practical takeaway: under the prior format a candidate could pass while treating Business Environment as an afterthought (roughly 14 scored questions); on the active format it is worth more than a third of the People domain, and value delivery, governance, compliance, and organizational change are no longer optional study topics.
How long should PMP preparation take?
PMI does not prescribe one preparation duration or number of practice questions. Build a plan from your experience, available study time, and diagnostic results. Review every domain, then use timed practice to adjust the plan. Third-party study-duration estimates are not official PMP statistics.
