PMP Certification in Australia: Cost, Eligibility and Exam Booking (2026)
Australian candidates earn the PMP through the same steps as everyone else: apply to PMI, get approved, pay, then book a Pearson VUE appointment at a test center or online. What changes in Australia is the budget in Australian dollars, the distances involved if you live outside a capital city, booking across several time zones, and how the PMP relates to the AIPM credentials that also exist locally. This guide covers those Australia specifics.

How much does the PMP cost in AUD?
Use the US-price benchmark below to estimate a budget at about 1.44 AUD per USD (indicative rate, October 2026). PMI's regional prices, membership offers, taxes and your bank's fees can change the final total. Confirm the quote for your account before paying.
| Cost item | With PMI membership | Without membership |
|---|---|---|
| PMI annual membership | $164 (about AUD 236) | Not needed |
| PMP exam fee | $405 (about AUD 583) | $655 (about AUD 943) |
| Exam and membership subtotal (training excluded) | $569 (about AUD 819) | $655 (about AUD 943) |
Fees as listed by PMI (US pricing) and on our PMP exam cost guide. PMI decides any local tax at checkout, so confirm the final amount before you pay.
The Australian dollar floats against the US dollar, so the AUD figures above are budgeting estimates at an indicative October 2026 rate: about AUD 583 for the member exam fee, about AUD 943 for the non-member exam fee and about AUD 236 for a year of PMI membership. PMI decides any tax at checkout, including whether GST applies to your order. If the charge is processed in a foreign currency, your card issuer may add an international transaction fee, so compare the checkout total with your statement. If your employer reimburses professional development, download the receipt from your PMI account and check whether membership is covered as well as the exam.
With the US benchmark, membership plus the member exam fee is $86 below the non-member exam fee before taxes. Compare your actual regional totals to decide whether membership fits your needs.
Booking the exam
- Test center: Pearson VUE centers operate in capital cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra. Search your suburb or town on the Pearson VUE PMI page for current centers, dates and times. If you live in a regional area, factor travel time (and possibly an overnight stay) into the decision between a center and OnVUE.
- Online (OnVUE): available in Australia. You need a private room, a webcam, a stable connection and a clear desk. If your home connection is shared or patchy, test it at the same time of day as your appointment and ask the household to stay off heavy downloads during the exam.
- Time zones: Australia spans several time zones, and some states and territories observe daylight saving while others, such as Queensland and Western Australia, do not. Schedule online appointments in your local time zone and double-check the start time on your Pearson VUE confirmation, especially for bookings made around the April and October changeovers.
- ID: your government ID must match the name on your PMI application. Fix any mismatch in your PMI profile before you book.
For check-in timing and permitted items, follow your Pearson VUE confirmation. Our PMP exam day checklist covers the rest of the day.
Exam language
Australian candidates sit the exam in English. The questions are scenario based and follow PMI's July 2026 Exam Content Outline, so the vocabulary is PMI's rather than that of any local framework. Our PMP glossary helps you check PMI terms quickly.
Eligibility
PMI's four PMP experience pathways are 60 months with a secondary credential, 48 months with an associate or qualifying vocational credential, 36 months with a bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 24 months with a GAC-accredited bachelor's or postgraduate degree. Count non-overlapping project leadership experience within the previous 10 years.
You also need 35 hours of qualifying project-management training; an active CAPM satisfies that training requirement. Check the credential mapping and documentation in our PMP eligibility guide and PMI's official requirements before applying.
Local community
PMI has several chapters in Australia, including the Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Western Australia, Adelaide and Canberra chapters. They run events and PDU sessions, which are useful before the exam for study contacts and after it for the 60 PDUs you need every three years to renew. Find your nearest chapter through the chapter directory in your PMI account.
The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) offers its own credentials with their own criteria. The PMP is PMI's globally portable credential, and its eligibility follows PMI's rules below, whatever other qualifications you hold.
A study rhythm that fits your schedule
A practical routine for a full-time role is short weekday sets of 20 to 30 questions, one topic at a time, plus one longer weekend block for timed practice and review. Count back from your target date and keep the final weeks clear of end-of-financial-year pressure in June if that is a busy period in your job. Our PMP study plan guide has sample schedules, and a free account includes a study plan generator that builds a week-by-week plan from your target date and weekly hours.
Before booking, take at least two full 180-question mock exams (the live exam is 180 questions, 170 scored plus 10 unscored pretest, in 240 minutes) and drill your weakest areas with the topic guides.
